What are your New Year's resolutions?
It's that time of year to decide on your resolutions for 2025. While you do this, take time to reflect on how you can grow, improve, and prioritize your well-being. While people are usually obsessed with resolutions about fitness, finances, or their career, it's time to make sexual wellness a priority. Do yourself a favor and put sexual wellness on your New Year's resolution list.
Here are some empowering New Year’s resolutions to help you improve your sexual wellness in 2025.
1. Embrace Open Communication
Great sexual wellness starts with honest communication, seriously.
- With a Partner: Resolve to discuss boundaries, desires, and needs more openly. Setting aside times to regularly check-in about your intimacy can make a huge difference.
- With Yourself: Explore your wants and needs through journaling or reflection. Our Ignite the Self sexual wellness journal is a perfect tool for this journey.
2. Prioritize Pleasure
This year, make pleasure a priority—not an afterthought.
- Learn what feels good for you through solo exploration.
- Communicate your preferences to your partner(s) without guilt or hesitation.
- Explore new avenues of pleasure, whether that’s trying new positions, toys, or settings.
3. Educate Yourself
Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to sexual health and wellness. Oh my gosh, good thing you found me ;)
- Read books or listen to podcasts about sex positivity, anatomy, and intimacy.
- Stay informed about contraception, STIs, and safe sex practices.
- Take time to understand your body and how it changes over time.
- Read more posts from Fires Within or send in the questions you want answered.
4. Make Time for Intimacy
Life gets busy, but intimacy doesn't need to be rushed or overlooked.
- Schedule date nights or moments of connection with your partner(s).
- Use rituals, like lighting a sensual Fires Within candle, to set the mood and create intentional time for intimacy.
5. Set Boundaries and Stick to Them
Healthy relationships thrive on mutual respect and trust.
- Reflect on your personal boundaries and communicate them clearly.
- Ensure that consent is always a non-negotiable in your sexual encounters. If you feel like someone isn't respecting your boundaries, they aren't worth your time.
6. Explore Your Fantasies
The New Year is a perfect time to dive into your fantasies.
- Write down your fantasies in a private journal or share them with your partner.
- Discuss what excites you and explore safe, consensual ways to bring them to life.
7. Focus on Emotional Intimacy
Emotional Intimacy plays a huge role in a healthy sex life.
- Spend time deepening your emotional bond with your partner(s) through meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and acts of kindness.
- If single, focus on self-love and building a stronger relationship with yourself.
8. Take Care of Your Physical Health
Your physical health plays a vital role in your sexual wellness.
- Schedule regular check-ups with your healthcare provider.
- Stay up-to-date on STI testing and vaccinations. Here's a tracker to help you stay on top of it.
- Address any concerns, like discomfort or hormonal changes, with a medical professional.
9. Break Free from Shame
Many of us carry shame or stigma around sexuality. I mean, that's what I'm trying to stop too. Make 2025 the year you let go.
- Embrace a sex-positive mindset and reject outdated taboos.
- Surround yourself with supportive people and communities that celebrate sexual wellness.
10. Commit to Self-Care
Self-care is so vital for a happy life, but also a happy sex life.
- Stress can lower libido significantly. However you lower your stress levels, keep it up and commit to it this year.
- Focus on physical health through exercise, nutrition, and rest.
- Indulge in rituals that make you feel confident and sexy—like wearing lingerie, dancing, or treating yourself to a spa day.
11. Explore Mindfulness and Sexuality
When you get in your head, it's hard to stay in the moment and enjoy what's happening around you.
- Try incorporating meditation, breathing exercises, or yoga into your routine.
- Practice being fully present during intimate moments, focusing on sensation and connection. Sometimes just closing your eyes and taking deep breaths helps bring you back to present.
12. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection
Ah, another one of my mottos for the past year. But sexual wellness is a journey, not a destination.
- Celebrate small wins, like initiating a tough conversation or trying something new.
- Let go of pressure to “perform” and focus on enjoying the process. It's supposed to be fun, not perfect.
So what is your resolution?
This New Year, find a resolution for yourself, no one else. Choose to make your sexual wellness a priority. Whether you’re in a relationship or exploring solo, these resolutions can help you prioritize pleasure and self-love.
